Acoustics announces the NYC premiere of MARK WHITECAGE'S BUSHWACKED - A SPOKEN OPERA at 8PM at one of New York's best spots for listening, The Stone. Then stick around for a special treat at 10PM -- a rare appearance of ROZANNE LEVINE'S NEW REED QUARTET.

In creating his spoken word opera BushWacked, Mark Whitecage focused his outrage at the criminal gang in Washington, gathered text and like-minded musicians, and produced a hard-hitting and sometimes angry indictment of the Bush Crime Family, all without losing the sense of swing and intensity he is known for!!

What the critics are saying about Mark's just-released CD, BushWacked - A Spoken Opera on the Acoustics label, which will be available at the concert:

One of the Top Ten Releases of 2005 - RexButters, All About Jazz - LA

“BushWacked' is an impressive, bold and timely work from alto sax wiz, Mark Whitecage, and his new crew." - Bruce Lee Gallanter, Downtown Music Gallery Newsletter

“Mark Whitecage and The Bi-Coastal Orchestra step up to the podium and deliver the statement of sanity many have been waiting on for five years. Whitecage's broad stylistic background is well represented by his ensemble, creating a lively listenable soundtrack equal to the seething passion in the composer's text." - Rex Butters, All About Jazz - LA

“Apart from the obvious sociopolitical implications of the lyrics, the “jazz-and-much-more" raging authority unleashed by Whitecage [and company] will curl up your toes: a show-stopping virtuosity does not waste an ounce of the pulsating conceptual energy of the group, whose components encapsulate hundreds of different artistic experiences, throwing them against the often disappointing aesthetics of today's swing/jazz realities with sardonic smiles and thoroughly irreverent musicianship. Archie Shepp and ragtime, Frank Zappa and off-Broadway, anarchy and democracy: it's all here for your mental and auditive pleasure - and your radio won't play it for sure." Massimo Ricci, Touching Extremes

ROZANNE LEVINE and THE NEW REED QUARTET is an alliance of old friends discovering a new sound. All four musicians bring to the project a wealth of musical experience and each contributes a sound and sensibility all their own. The New Reed Quartet is evolving and still realizing its freewheeling, intimate sound. They find immense joy in their telepathic improvisations, but are also exploring compositions by Thelonious Monk and by members of the quartet. They'll be joined by guest artists Roy Campbell, Jr., Joe Fonda and Jay Rosen for some sparkling improvisation.
