A Marriage Made In Heaven

NYC Couple Blends Jazz and Gospel Styles For A Divine Listening Experience

Music is a vital element to the Christian faith. King David, famous for his soul-stirring Psalms in the Bible, wrote of singing new songs to the Lord using popular instruments during his lifetime, namely, the harp and lyre. Taking the same approach in the expression of their faith, through the saxophone and vocals, are Tyrone and Paula Birkett--a fresh jazz duo connected to one another through their love for each other and their love of music.

The harmonious marriage of Tyrone's smooth jazz saxophone and Paula's silky vocals can be heard on their latest album In the Fullness of Time, set to be released on September 19, 2006. On what is described as a progressive gospel/jazz album, In the Fullness of Time mingles inspirational gospel styles like that of Fred Hammond and The Winans with modern contemporary jazz approaches influenced by classics like Branford Marsalis and John Coltrane. As veterans of the business, Tyrone and Paula's diverse experiences and musical understanding are demonstrated on In the Fullness of Time.

The listener not only experiences the unique union of jazz and gospel styles while soaking upIn the Fullness of Time, but an intentionally spiritual encounter. Woven into modern saxophone melodies are heartfelt words of peace, hope, joy and God's love, delivered through soulful vocals. “The message of the music is to empower people to live this life abundantly and realize their purpose and destiny here on earth," Tyrone explains. He adds, “The music is the envelope that contains a message with substance, hope and encouragement."

On this CD you will be blown away by the virtuosic but accessible saxophone improvisations complemented by heartfelt vocals. The smooth cool jazz, jazz fusion and modern jazz stylings, the spoken word along with the unforgettable funky reconstruction of “Awesome God", tend to flow seamlessly together with warm ballads. Together, this is all anchored by the attentive musicianship of a revolving cast of rhythm sections. Add to that Paula Ralph Birkett alternating between powerful declarations and intimate monologues to bring to you the message of the music.

Whether in an intimate jazz club, a summer night at the park, or a Sunday morning service, In the Fullness of Time has the unique ability to simultaneously reach an audience of jazz buffs, gospel devotees and music lovers of every kind.
