North by Northeast (NXNE), Canada's #1 showcase for the best new independent music and music-related films, feverishly announces its kick-ass KICK-OFF SHOWCASE on Tuesday, Oct. 30.

Screw “Canadian Idol"--real careers in music get made at NXNE! Snag a ringside seat to celebrate the start of the annual NXNE circus with a Nu Music Nite at Toronto's legendary Horseshoe Tavern with four great bands:

9:30: The Dudes
10:20: Casey Baker
11:10: Purrr
12:00: DD/MM/YYYY

Every June, NXNE takes over downtown Toronto, flooding the streets with 70,000 music junkies intent on checking out 500+ hot bands at 40 cool clubs. NXNE also shatters the stillness of the city's theatres to screen the best music movies, from concert classics to the latest indie docs. And there's an industry conference featuring tell-all celebrity interviews and no-b.s. music-biz panels. redpipe.ca presents North by Northeast XIV, rocking Toronto June 12-15, 2008.

So why are the NXNE dudes throwing a party in October? Two reasons: a) They're serving notice that band & film submissions for the festival open on November 1, 2007.
b) They'll use any excuse to put some smokin' indie bands on stage and hoist a few cold ones.

If you're a musician: Prepare to submit! Not sexually, not politically--well, not yet, anyway. But while buffing the handcuffs, get your NXNE application underway for next June's festival. You've got from November 1/07 until January 31/08. Now, this ain't homework, so no last-minute heroics, okay? Go--now!--to www.nxne.com and follow the links to send NXNE your funky electronic press kit through SonicBids. It'll cost you just $25 to get your act onstage in front of fans and key industry pros at the best talent-fest of the year.

“NXNE is an exciting combination of indie music and a film lover's gourmet feast. We had a great time and would love to come back." - Stewart Copeland, the Police

If you're a filmmaker: Film submissions for music-related features, shorts, docs, and animated shorts run from November 1 through to January 31, so put down the Stanislavski and finish that edit. For $25--less for a short--you skip mailing in forms, press kits, and DVDs. Instead, submit your festival application electronically-- www.nxne.com has details. Just like that other Toronto film festival, NXNE scoops world premieres and brings cool film folks to town-without any hassles, pretentiousness, or fashion gossip. At NXNE films, the music is the star.

“Toronto's NXNE Festival is the most teeming, throbbing and wriggling snakepit of excitement in this half of the continent, maybe even the whole landmass!" - Guy Maddin, director, Brand upon the Brain

If you love great independent music and music films: NXNE ticket, wristband, and conference festival pass info will be up at www.nxne.com soon. Check the site for mind-blowing deals, and don't book anything else for June 12-15, 2008--you're going to need each second and every ounce of energy to get maximum blast from this explosive festival.

“Thousands of artists showcased by NXNE directly to key music and film executives. This is where you bring your entertainment vehicle if you want serious industry attention." - Rob Halford, Judas Priest

The North By Northeast (NXNE) Music & Film Festival and Conference is renowned for showcasing the best new independent music and music-related film. Since its launch in 1994, NXNE has become recognized worldwide as the place for fans to see great performers at intimate venues, for musicians to get vital local and international exposure, and for industry professionals to meet and exchange new ideas about the biz. Catch North by Northeast XIV, June 12-15 2008 at over 40 venues in downtown Toronto.
