On October 12th & 13th vocalist Lorraine Feather and pianist Russell Ferrante will perform (as a duo) for two nights at Tula’s in Seattle, as part of the Earshot Jazz Festival.

Lyricist/singer Lorraine Feather has been heard on numerous records, in films and on television. She has received seven Emmy nominations as a songwriter. She began focusing on solo recording projects as an artist in 2001, first featuring her lyrics to instrumental classics by Fats Waller and Duke Ellington, then concentrating on creating original material with some of the finest living jazz composers. Her CD Ages was nominated for a 2011 Grammy in the Best Jazz Vocal Album category.

Feather’s new album, Tales of the Unusual, was released on Valentine’s Day 2012. As with Ages, most of the original material was created with living musician collaborators. It has received extraordinary press, including a four-and-a-half star review on All Music Guide calling Lorraine “one of the most creative lyricists of her generation.”

Russell Ferrante is one of the founding members of the world-famous, electro-acoustic group Yellowjackets. The Yellowjackets have recorded two dozen albums to date, have won multiple Grammy awards, and remain one of the genre’s most popular groups, maintaining a vigorous touring schedule over 30 years after their formation.

Individually, Ferrante has produced, written for or performed with a wide array of legendary jazz and pop artists, including Bobby McFerrin, Al Jarreau, Michael Franks, Jimmy Witherspoon, Diane Reeves, Take 6, The GRP Big Band, Lee Ritenour, Joni Mitchell, Tom Scott and Brenda Russell. He received two Grammy nominations in 2012, one with Yellowjackets for their Timeline release in the Best Jazz Instrumental album category, and an individual nomination for Best Instrumental Composition for the album’s title track.

Feather and Ferrante have collaborated as songwriters for close to a decade and have performed together live in Los Angeles. Their appearance at the Earshot Jazz Festival, known for its “adventurous, spot-on programming (Jazz Times),” marks their first performance together out of Southern California.
