The Chihiro Yamanaka Trio will perform at Yoshi's Jazz Club in San Francisco on September 2, 2012, in a concert celebrating the release of her new CD, Reminiscence (Universal/Decca/EmArcy). This is the 2nd major-label CD release in the United States by the dazzling jazz pianist, following her 2011 U.S. debut, Forever Begins (Universal/Decca/EmArcy).

Yoshi's San Francisco is at 1330 Fillmore St., San Francisco, CA. Chihiro will perform from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM. There is an $18 cover charge plus a one-item food/drink minimum. Tickets can be purchased in advance via the Yoshi's website or by calling the venue at 415-655-5600.

Yoshi's Jazz Club & Japanese Restaurant, with two locations (San Francisco and Oakland), is celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2012, and this summer has been presenting a series of special concerts to commemorate the organization's 40 years as one of the world's most consistently successful jazz concert producers.

Appearing with Chihiro will be bassist Yoshi Waki and drummer John Davis. Waki and Davis appear on Reminiscence, as do bassist Larry Grenadier and drummer Bernard “Pretty" Purdie. The CD features a combination of Chihiro's distinctive composing and her strikingly original arrangements of classic material by composers ranging from John Coltrane and Horace Silver to Burt Bacharach and Carole King.

Reminiscence has already been released in Japan on Universal/Verve, and it quickly ascended to the #1 spot on the Japanese jazz charts, continuing Chihiro's streak of consecutive chart-topping jazz CDs on Universal/Verve in Japan over the past several years. Reminiscence has the additional honor of winning the “Nissan Presents Jazz Japan Award" for “Album Of The Year."

Next on the horizon is Chihiro's tribute to the Beatles, Because (Universal/Verve), a CD released in Japan in July, 2012 and due to hit the U.S. and Europe markets in coming months. This groundbreaking disc features some of the most creative reworkings of Beatles classics ever recorded. Along with the title track, “Because" (from Abbey Road), Chihiro transforms great songs such as “Yesterday" and “Michelle" into glittering displays of Chihiro's musical imagination.

2012 has been a milestone year for Chihiro, a year that delivered the Chihiro Yamanaka Trio's first appearance in the Mary Lou Williams Women In Jazz Festival at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC, a concert that was featured on National Public Radio’s “JazzSet with Dee Dee Bridgewater.”
