The Japanese Songbird TAEKO, known to audiences throughout the world as TAEKO, will be performing at JAZZ AT KITANO on August 22nd with John J. DiMartino on piano, Ed Howard on bass, and Victor Jones on Drums.

Japanese-born Jazz Diva TAEKO has performed in New York City’s top jazz clubs, including Blue Note, Lenox Lounge and Zinc Bar, as well as jazz festivals throughout the United States and Japan. This is her return to JAZZ AT KITANO since the sold- out show in October 2011, followed by an appearance on Thursday, August 24th as a headliner at Jazz On The Beach Concert in Atlantic City, New Jersey that features the finest talents in jazz.

TAEKO tours Japan twice yearly, and she will be touring Japan for three weeks this October. TAEKO released two albums, ONE LOVE (2007 Flat Nine Records) and VOICE (2010 Flat Nine Records), and is currently working on her third release with the producer and program director at Sirius/XM Satellite Radio, Mark Ruffin. TAEKO reveals her bebop chops on the arrangement of Thelonious Monk’s “I Mean You,” and on “Inner City Blues” a favorite among jazz instrumentalists, but surprisingly few vocalists. Join us on Wednesday, August 22nd, 2012, 8PM & 10PM for a very special night of music in New York City.

“Taeko is a singer of uncommon originality with a voice all her own; one that has been aptly described as a gentle breeze with hurricane potential...bearing touches of her many influences, from Ella Fitzgerald, to Anita Baker, while remaining distinctly herself…” —All About Jazz

“A truly gifted and talented performer” —Salvador A. Riggi, Executive Director, Cape May Friends of Jazz, Inc.
