Monterey, CA; The Monterey Peninsula College Swing Band will present its annual Spring Concert on Tuesday, May 22 at 7:00 p.m. in the MPC Music Hall. Under the direction of Dr. Rob Klevan, the 21-piece band will perform works written or arranged specifically for big band, and will feature local jazz vocalist Lauri Hofer Romero.

Also appearing will be the Monterey Jazz Festival’s Monterey County High School All-Star Combo, under the direction of Paul Lucckesi. “The Monterey Jazz Festival County All-Star Band and Honor Vocal Jazz Ensemble, directed by Kerry Marsh, will be touring in the Pacific Northwest this June and July on a festival and club venue circuit that would make most pros envious,” said Paul Contos, Education Director of the Monterey Jazz Festival. “They’ll perform in British Columbia at the Vancouver International Jazz Festival on June 30, and at the Victoria International Jazz Festival on July 1. They’ll also appear at Seattle’s premiere jazz venue, Jazz Alley, on July 3. These are Monterey County’s top high school performing jazz musicians and vocalists, selected individually by Monterey Jazz Festival Traveling Clinicians, and have worked diligently to attain a seat in these two exciting ensembles.”

The performance on May 22 is free and open to the public. Donations towards funding the Monterey Jazz Festival High School All-Star Band’s 2012 summer tour to the Pacific Northwest and British Columbia will also be accepted.

MPC’s Music Hall is located in the Fine Arts section of Monterey Peninsula College, located at 980 Fremont Street in Monterey. For more information, contact the MPC Music Department at (831) 646-4200.
