Electric bassist, Brazilian musical artist and composer Amanda Ruzza (http://www.AmandaRuzza.com) celebrates her new CD release, This is What Happened with a CD release party on Tuesday May 22, 2012, and performances at 8:00 PM and 10:00 PM, at the Zinc Bar, 82 West 3rd Street (between Thompson & Sullivan), New York City.

The multi-lingual, Brazilian Native, a virtuoso electric bassist, an in-demand studio player, and jazz music artist will lead her band of internationally-renowned, New York-based jazz musicians through a matrix of her new compositions - an energized, funk-driven, Brazilian-influenced jazz music set. The jazz musicians in Ms. Ruzza's band who will be creating the animated musical conversations include Mauricio Zottarelli, drums; Alex Nolan, guitar; Mamiko Watanabe, piano; Chris Stover, trombone; Lucas Pino, tenor & soprano sax; Special Guests: David Binney, alto & soprano sax; Camila Meza, guitar & vocals.

This Is What Happened  transcends stylistic labels - as timeless music always does. The prodigious electric bassist and composer delivers a debut jazz music CD that dissolves the artificial barriers that are often created by such preconceptions. She sculpts a recording that is at once driving, thoughtful, sensitive and most of all, musical. Ruzza is a young and seasoned veteran. With her active studio schedule and touring experience to bolster her skills as a jazz music performer, electric bassist and composer, Ruzza is ideally prepared as a leader - and this CD recording demonstrates just that.

Amanda Ruzza hails from São Paulo, Brazil. She discovered her muse at an early age - perhaps the result of her Chilean mother who loved opera, and her father, Italian, whose passion was rock n' roll. Growing up in a house humming with music, Amanda began playing bass early, and was playing professional performance engagements by age 13. Eventually, in Brazil, she worked with distinguished Brazilian producers and arrangers, including Grammy Award-winner Moogie Canazio, Maestro Jobam and Sony Music Japan's Osny Mello. Besides being a musician fluent in an array of styles, Ruzza is fluent in several languages as well - Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, and English. In developing her musical skills, she is able to cross all cultural boundaries.

Her work with groups covering a wide range of styles, including Global Noize, Chris Stover's Caetano Veloso Project, as well as with her own band, the Amanda Ruzza Group, evidence her flexibility. Amanda draws on her multicultural background as s primary influence on her passion for composing music - music that seamlessly assimilates elements of funk, jazz and South American rhythms.

Ms. Ruzza earned a dual degree in Jazz Bass Performance and Liberal Arts at The New School in New York City. As a session musician on electric bass, she has contributed on recordings with Bebel Gilberto, Jason Miles, Simone Giuliani and Simon Katz (Jamiroquai). She is a recipient of the highly competitive Latin American World Tour Scholarship. In 2003, Amanda began touring and recording on electric bass with the all-girl country band, Mustang Sally, based in Nashville, Tennessee. While in the band, she worked with country music producer Barry Beckett, recorded four albums, and played for US military bases overseas in Japan, South Korea, and within the US.

Ms Ruzza endorses Dunlop, Lexicon, DBX, BSS Audio, Aguilar Amps.
