Born and raised in forests of Sweden, Rebecka Larsdotter wrote her first song at the age of 2, recorded by her older sister on a tape-recorder. She has since been writing, singing and playing piano, violin, guitar, and finally made music her full time life in 2002 by beginning a Master's Degree in Music program at rebro and Malm University of Music.
Upon graduating in 2008, Rebecka moved to the U.S. (Los Angeles, then New York) to pursue her passion for songwriting and performing. Not only traveling back and forth between Scandinavia and the U.S., but also between the musical scenes of singer-songwriter jazz, she finally found her home among the top jazz players and scene in Los Angeles. Here, her lyrics and musical ideas were woven together and brought to life players such as Ruslan Sirota, Charles Altura, Chris Coleman, Hadrien Feraud, Zane Musa, Nick Mancini, J. P. Maramba, Vardan Ovsepian and Tony Austin. The result was Larsdotter's debut album Feathers & Concrete, taken on by Swedish label Prophone and released in September 2011 (U.S. Release: 4/24/12).
“I was extremely blessed to work with these musicians who have given so much of their time, talent, inspiration and encouragement. Through their wonderful playing I was able to paint the pictures I had been longing to do with my music." All tunes are written and lived by Larsdotter, derived from her own experiences and life. The album title, Feathers & Concrete, suggests the co-dependence of the contrasts that life brings us, the heavy and the light, the white and the dark, the easy and the difficult. Through that, the beauty of life can be seen. With influences from artists such as Joni Mitchell, Bjrk, jazz musicians both from the past and in the contemporary scene, Scandinavian folk music, and more and more and still more, the album is an output of the input of music Larsdotter has had throughout her life.
“Writing a song, to me, is simply a channeling of the energy and thoughts one wants to convey, through the resources of musical ideas and lyrics available in your mind," says Larsdotter. “Putting the pieces together, enabling people to meet on a different level than the everyday human life might portray. A way to touch and connect, to feel and be felt." After spending some time back in Stockholm, Sweden, Larsdotter moved back to the U.S, and is now based in New York, aiming for new musical adventures and albums.
