Drummer and composer Brian Adler releases the fifth in a series of digital recordings from The Helium Music Project, his ongoing creative collaboration with jazz musicians that transcends time, and space. Entitled Phase 5, the digital EP will be available as a digital download on May 22 at HeliumMusicProject.com.

With eyes and ears on the future, Adler showcases a project that is limitless in design. Continuously growing with more and more like-minded participants, “Adler’s music blurs the lines between 'jazz' and 'world' music and Helium is a delightfully uplifting representation of his musical philosophy,” says WBGO’s Alex Ariff.

“I have led bands before, but I always felt limited having a fixed number of players,” says Adler. “The Helium Music Project gives me the freedom to create music with anyone, anywhere...”

Track Listing

1. Up For Air – Co-written by Adler and Matt Holman, This fun, pop-like melody was co-written by Adler and trumpeter Matt Holman. The two are joined by Bryan Carrott on vibes, Jesse Lewis on guitar, and from the Netherlands, Ruben Samama on bass.

2. Quinoa – Featuring Korean singer Sunny Kim and guitar virtuoso, Ben Monder, this personnel doubles as an incarnation of Adler’s project Prana Trio which typically explores ancient texts. Here they play Adler’s theme and develop a rich textural tapestry that is reminiscent of music that might come from a David Lynch film.
