On April 30, the United Nations will celebrate International Jazz Day with concerts scheduled for Paris, New York and New Orleans.

In New York, the event schedule will include a screening of Finding Carlton - Uncovering The Story Of Jazz In India. The film will be followed by a panel discussion which will focus on the theme “Unlearning Intolerance."

The location and time will be announced shortly.

This groundbreaking documentary film tells the story of how African American musicians took jazz to India in the 1930's and follows the one of the last survivors of India's jazz age—the guitarist Carlton Kitto.

“Finding Carlton is at once illuminating and captivating. Through sterling direction and story- telling, the film manages to preserve Indian jazz culture while also informing even the wisest jazz fan about the music’s migration from American to Europe and to India. It's a story that has escaped most American jazz listeners until now... But perhaps most remarkable is how all jazz musicians—no matter where they reside on the globe—share the same love and veneration for the music and its originators. In Finding Carlton, you see firsthand how jazz has come to be a transnational language” —Marc Myers, JazzWax
