Week of Grammy, New York gets back to Jazz
Stan Kenton Centennial (Friday and Saturday) A big band composer and educator remembered for his pedantic progressivismand for employing some of the great talents of the postwar era, like the alto saxophonist Lee Konitz, the arranger Bill Holman and the drummer Mel LewisStan Kenton would have turned 100 this weekend. Jazz at Lincoln Center, which never met a jazz centennial it didn't like, digs into the Kenton repertory with its house orchestra led by Wynton Marsalis; Mr. Konitz, still a restless force at 84, appears as a guest.
