Chick Corea, Eddie Gomez, Paul Motian: "Further Explorations"

Chick Corea Two years ago, this Corea-led trio played a two-week residency at New York's Blue Note club that honored the late piano genius Bill Evans (bassist Gomez and the recently deceased Motian were vets of Evans' groups).

On this resulting two-disc live set, pianist Corea and his mates successfully suggest Evans' introspective, dreamy, lightly swinging style with a mixture of Evans classics and originals from each of the three.

Charlie Haden & Hank Jones, Come Sunday

This final collaboration between the two jazz greats is as warm and moving as its acclaimed predecessor, Steal Away, their exquisite 1995 album of spirituals and folk songs. It was recorded just before Jones died in 2010 at age 91, but his graceful piano and Haden's sumptuous bass imbue these melodies with a sweet elegance
