Annie Ross has been an abundant contributor to the art of jazz for over 50 years. She is a pioneer of vocalese as well as a founding member of Lambert, Hendricks and Ross, considered the greatest jazz vocal ensemble of all time and on Tuesday October 25, 2011 the Great Women In Music Festival (now in it's 11 season) will celebrate this incredible legend on Tuesday October 25, 9:30pm at the Metropolitan Room 34 West 22 St. (BET 5th & 6th Aves) 212 206- 0440. In Paris in the late 40's, Annie met such stellar jazz musicians as James Moody, Charlie Parker, Coleman Hawkins, Billy Strayhorn, and displayed a savvy sense of harmony, the rest as they say is fabulous history.

Her influence is ever present in many genres, with many performers including such artist as Joni Mitchell and Bette Midler. In a variety of settings, Ms. Ross became known as a great singer and stylist of breathtaking ballads and thrilling up-tempo tunes. Annie swings hard, improvise well and makes every lyric meaningful and revealing. Annie Ross is also the recipient of the 2011 LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT MAC AWARD

Great Women In Music is an ongoing celebration of the many contributions women have made to music and the world. Annually Great Women In Music presents an October month long Festival that features legendary as well as up-and-coming performing artists. On Thursday October 27, 2011 Great Women will present R&B sensation Natasha C. Coward at SOB's New York 212 243 4940.

Over the years in a list that is inclusive of Phoebe Snow, Gloria Lynne, Floetry, Shirley Caesar, Carmen Lundy, Hip Hop Diva Olivia, Zap Mama, Ann Hampton Callaway, Regina Carter and Lainie Kazan Great Women In Music has reigned supreme as a presenter of memorable events. From our Jazz galas at Birdland to our soulful dance parties at SOB's it has been a wonderful decade. Our multifaceted Festivals have also offered book signings by critically acclaimed authors and seminars pertaining to the business of music. Throughout the season Great Women In Music presents promotional events that help to bring attention to our long standing October Festival.
