CARNEGIE HALL PRESENTS JAZZ PIANIST-VOCALIST PATRICIA BARBER IN ZANKEL HALL ON WEDNESDAY, MARCH 22 AT 8:30 P.M.
The Concert Includes Jazz Standards, Improvisations, and Original Compositions by Ms. Barber
Jazz pianist-vocalist Patricia Barber performs jazz standards, improvisations, and her own original compositions in Zankel Hall on Wednesday, March 22 at 8:30 p.m. For this performance, Ms. Barber is joined by the members of her quartet-guitarist Neal Alger , bassist Michael Arnopol , and drummer Eric Montzka . This is the final concert of Carnegie Hall’s 2005–2006 The Shape of Jazz series, which is presented in partnership with Festival Productions, Inc.
Considered to be in the vanguard of the new school of female jazz vocalists, Patricia Barber is known as a singer, songwriter, composer, and recording artist. Born in Chicago to a musical family-her father, Floyd “Shim” Barber played with Glenn Miller-Ms. Barber studied classical piano and psychology at the University of Iowa and received a Masters of Music degree from Northwestern University. In addition to regular appearances at Chicago’s famed north side club, Green Mill, this season Ms. Barber and her quartet also appear at leading jazz venues across North America and Europe. Ms. Barber’s critically acclaimed recordings include Café Blue (Premonition 1994), Verse (Blue Note/Premonition 2002), and her most recent album, A Fortnight in France -which is her first exclusive Blue Note Records release. In 2003, she was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship in Composition, which resulted in her new song cycle project, Mythologies .
In partnership with Festival Productions, Inc., Carnegie Hall presents a four-concert jazz series featuring artists from a wide spectrum of styles. In addition to Patricia Barber, the series included pianist and composer Fred Hersch , bassist Ron Carter with guitarist Russell Malone and pianist Mulgrew Miller, and drummer Matt Wilson with his jazz quartet Arts and Crafts.
