Free Concert Featuring Heath Brothers and Pianist Jeb Patton in North Salem (NY) on Sept. 17

The New York chapter of the Alumni Association of Tama Art University, as part of its Opening Reception on September 17 at the Hammond Museum in North Salem, NY, will present a free performance featuring pianist Jeb Patton, vocalist Kazue, and bassist David Wong.

Tama Art University is one of the top art colleges in Japan. Its New York City alumni group is having its annual Home Away From Home art exhibit, which features works by alumni based in the New York City area along with selected works by alumni based in Japan. Twenty-five artists are represented in the exhibit.

Jeb Patton & Friends (including singer Kazue, a Tama alum), will play as part of a multi-discipline reception that will also include a Tea Ceremony presided over by Hisae Kurebayashi of Omotesenkeryu and free admission to the Hammond Museum and its Japanese Garden. The reception starts at 1 PM and runs for two hours.

The Hammond Museum is located at 28 Deveau Road in North Salem (Westchester), NY. New York City residents wishing to attend have the option of taking a chartered bus from NYC to Salem for the inexpensive cost of $30 round-trip (which includes a bento box lunch at no additional cost). The bus will leave from in front of Sakagura (211 East 43rd St. between Second and Third Aves.) at 10:50 AM and will return to NYC at 5 PM. No reservation is required for the reception, but if people not taking the bus wish to have a bento box at the museum, they can reserve one in advance with Ms. Hayakawa for $6 at the email above.

Described as both a “young phenom...on piano" and an “absolute great," Jeb Patton has earned a well-regarded reputation in the international jazz community. The multi-talented Patton is known as a “player of great expression" and “not one to tread the predictable," as well as a “simpatico accompanist" for The Heath Brothers, an “innovative" arranger, and one who “cuts...[an] impressive swath on his composition, 'Hanna's Mood,'" a tribute to his late teacher, Sir Roland Hanna. Patton's most recent CD release is New Strides on the MAXJAZZ label.
