About Noah Haidu:

Noah Haidu is one of New York's leading young jazz pianists. His playing and composing combine cutting edge rhythmic ideas, harmonic sophistication, spontaneity, soul, and swing into a distinct approach that stands out from the crowd of today's young jazz artists. Noah has played as a sideman with Curtis Lundy, Duane Eubanks, the Winard Harper Sextet, Thomas Bramerie, Michael Hawkins, Essiet Essiet, Jeanie Bryson, and Eddie Allen. These gigs keep him in the company of an exciting group of young musicians including Montez Coleman, Eric McPherson, Jaz Sawyer, and Brad Jones, and others. In addition, he leads own quartet which features trumpeter Jeremy Pelt.

Noah is also a member of the cooperative group Native Soul. In this band he collaborates with drummer Steve Johns, saxophonist Peter Brainin, and bassist Marcus McLaurine. Their recently released CD Rough Jazz (Apria Records/2006) shows off their exciting musical approach, combining hard-swinging New York jazz with elements of funk, Brazilian, gospel, and Latin styles. Although acoustic piano is his main instrument, Noah enjoys experimenting with electronic keyboards and sounds, and performs with the very in-demand funk group One Nation. This group has played opposite legendary artists like Chaka Khan and Larry Graham.

Born in Charlottesville, Virginia, Noah was exposed early on to all kinds of music: blues, classical, avant-garde, rock, and jazz. By the time he entered high school in Hopewell, New Jersey he was developing a keen interest in jazz and blues piano and composition. After graduating, he studied at the jazz program at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ. Around this time, Noah began performing on the local music scene, playing pick up gigs with jazz and R&B groups in New Jersey, Philadelphia, and Brooklyn. In Philly, the young pianist would sometimes sit with the legendary drummer Mickey Roker. Eager to begin working in the heart of the music scene, Noah soon moved to Brooklyn, New York. Since then he has devoted most of his time to performing and composing. His teachers have included Kenny Barron, Bruce Barth, and Barry Harris. He continues to absorb new musical ideas and concepts, and to be open to diverse influences. In addition to his busy performing schedule, he finds time to teach piano and theory classes at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music.
