Trumpeter Farnell Newton is one of the most versatile musicians and educators in the Northwest, playing straight ahead jazz, smooth jazz, Latin music, soul, and hip hop. When he is not teaching at Portland State University's Jazz Department or working with his youth jazz group, PDX Jazz Project, he is touring, recording, and performing with sax man Mike Phillips (who has performed with Stevie Wonder and Prince, among others), the DooDooFunk All- Stars, & the BET/CENTRIC Soul Train Award All-Star Band. In the last year, Farnell has played with great musical artists, including Lalah Hathaway, Ron Isley, R. Kelly, Cee Lo Green, Fantasia, Charlie Wilson, Chaka Khan, Najee, Will Downing, Bootsy Collins, and many more.
Now, Farnell has put together together a masterful CD project inspired by hip-hop, soul, and jazz that will showcase his love of diverse genres and ability to blend musical styles. This project, Class Is Now In Session, is Farnell Newton's first solo release under his newly created record label House of Love Records. For more information, visit his website.
