The George Kahn Quintet, featuring George Kahn on piano, returns to the Culver Club in Culver City for an exciting night of West Coast Jazz on Friday, May 20th, 2011. The evening will feature music from George's most recent highly regarded album, Secrets From The Jazz Ghetto, as well as a very special tribute to the great Horace Silver. Accompanying George Kahn will be: Larry Klimas on sax, John Fumo on trumpet, Karl Vincent on bass and M. B. Gordy on drums.
The George Kahn Quintet plays music in the style of the classic touring quintets from the late 50s and early 60s. The music is exciting, funky, and swinging. This promises to be an outstanding night of music.
George Kahn has been compared in style to Dave Brubeck, Vince Guaraldi and Wynton Kelly. His musical mission is to recapture the magic of jazz from the late 50's and early 60's, before synthesizers and sequencers roamed the earth. The music pays tribute to such jazz greats as John Coltrane, Bill Evans, Gil Evans and Les McCann. George has played and recorded with jazz luminaries such as Billy Higgins, Eric Marienthal, Bobby Rodriguez, Ernie Watts, Joe Labarbera and Dave Carpenter. His music captures the feel of the West Coast jazz scene of the 50's, but with a modern edge.
