DAZZLE RECORDINGS PRESENTS “STATIC LINE" BY Tyler Gilmore'S NINTH AND LINCOLN WITH Cuong Vu

When: June 14th (National Release)
Sound Sample

Dazzle Recordings is proud to present Static Line, a recording that fuses jazz and experimental influences; all the while exploring the theme of World War II era music and it's role in morale and propaganda of the time. Inspired by his family background and his love of American history, composer/band-leader Tyler Gilmore has constructed a new kind of big band album.

Static Line, conceived as an homage to the World War II generation, recalls the big band era with layers of horns, shimmering vibraphones, and driving pulse. But Ninth and Lincoln is no nostalgia act. Composer Tyler Gilmore weaves a cacophonous collage of familiar melodies and new sounds, with danceable drums, distorted guitars, and trumpet sputters that blur the boundary between music and noise.

Although Gilmore says Static Line is not political, it's hard to ignore the parallels to today's many conflicts. It's also hard to ignore the composer's family history. In World War II, his grandfather was a lieutenant on the USS Zane and shipmates with Hermann Wouk, author of the best-selling War and Remembrance." —Keith Meatto, Editor, Frontier Psychiatrist

Ninth and Lincoln's first album garnered national attention and praise for it's inventive compositions and dynamic performances. The album earned Tyler Gilmore many of the nation's top jazz composition honors including the ASCAP Young Jazz Composer's Award in 2008-2010, and the ASCAP/Columbia College Commission in Honor of Hank Jones in 2009, and was given a 3.5 star review in Downbeat Magazine.

Static Line features Grammy winning trumpeter Cuong Vu. Known for his unique aural vocabulary, Vu has become a world-renowned name in creative music. First noticed for his trio recordings, Cuong has gone on to appear and/or record with Pat Metheny, Laurie Anderson, David Bowie, Dave Douglas, Myra Melford, Cibo Matto, and Mitchell Froom.

Tyler Gilmore is a composer and conductor, who fuses jazz with elements of 20th century chamber music and electronics. His music has been performed across the country by college and professional ensembles including Bobby Watson and the UMKC Concert Jazz Ensemble, The Penumbra String Quartet, and Vocalist Clare Wheeler.
