Nov. 17-20 ROY AYERS and BOBBI HUMPHREY

The Iridium Jazz Club is pleased to present jazz-funk vibist Roy Ayers and flute super-star Bobbi Humphrey, Thursday through Sunday November 17 through 20.

Los Angeles-born Roy Ayers (b. 1940) is a multi-instrumentalist child prodigy who was co-leading his own band with Hampton Hawes by his early twenties. Ayers came to prominence as the vibraphonist on albums by Herbie Mann, evolving from a strict Afro-Cuban style into a world music prototype on the 1967 release Impressions of the Middle East. Ayers went on to form Ubiquity, a progressive funk jazz group that cut a serious groove on such sessions as Red, Black and Green, Mystic Voyage, Everybody Loves the Sunshine, and Tear to a Smile. In 1993 Ayers came into the commercial mainstream as a guest on the acid-jazz breakthrough recording Jazzamatazz. A musician decades ahead of his time Roy Ayers' reputation is now that of one of the prophets of acid jazz.

Bobbi Humphrey, has been dubbed “The First Lady of the Flute" by critics and listeners alike and, from the accomplishments in her musical career, deservedly so. For three decades now, Bobbi Humphrey has been playing her special brand of music to audiences around the world.

Lookout for Funk, Electronica, Techno, House, Breakbeat, Jungle, and more as Roy and Bobbi lay down those 'Rare Grooves' at the Iridium Jazz Club November 17 through 21.
