Jazz Musicians from NYC and the South of France Celebrate International Musical Connections

Featuring Renowned Jazz Performers Roni Ben-Hur, Santi Debriano, Amy London & Steve Williams with Ensembles from the Jazz Program at Kaufman Center's Lucy Moses School

This spring a free concert in Merkin Concert Hall reunites NYC jazz musicians with fellow performers from the annual Festi-Jazz Saint Cézaire summer festival in Provence, France. On April 9, 2011, faculty and adult students in the Jazz Program at Kaufman Center's Lucy Moses School (LMS) will join Festi-Jazz director Frederic Rouquier and members of his ensemble for a program of American Songbook favorites, jazz standards and Latin jazz. The concert is a dynamic collaboration between avid amateurs and acclaimed professional musicians.

Headlining the show are four celebrated jazz performers who are also distinguished educators: Roni Ben-Hur, guitarist and LMS Jazz Program Director; Amy London, vocalist and LMS singing teacher; Santi Debriano, bassist and Newark public school music teacher; and Steve Williams, percussion.

Celebrating jazz as an international language, the concert brings to New York the spirit of Festi-Jazz Saint Cézaire. Every August, many members of the Lucy Moses School jazz ensemble join Ben-Hur, Debriano, London and Williams in the medieval French village of Saint Cézaire for a series of master classes and public performances. Festi-Jazz was inaugurated three years ago by Ben-Hur, Debriano and Rouquier—a long-time jazz enthusiast and bassist, and the sole doctor in St. Cezaire.

Jazz Program students who will perform include John Bliss (sax), Cascadu (vocalist and percussion), Larry Eckert (sax), Jennifer Ehrenberg (sax), Sharon Fischmann (percussion), John Giacchetti (vocals), David Klafter (piano), Jorge Manahan (guitar), Jose (Lips) Morales (trumpet), Keith Mulhare (bass), Larry Pasquale (percussion), Ted Sannella (vocals), Gil Spitzer (sax), Mercer Sullivan (guitar, vocalist), Ron Tikofsky (clarinet, sax), Erik Weiss (guitar) and Joseph Zemann (sax).

Children are welcome at this free, family-friendly concert, which will be followed by a reception with wine, soft drinks and snacks.
