Robert Plant, Sade and Diana Krall Confirmed for Montreal International Jazz Festival
Robert Plant, Diana Krall and Sade are some of the performers announced for this year's Montreal International Jazz Festival (Festival International de Jazz de Montreal)now in its 32nd yearwhich runs from June 25 to July 4.
According to a press release issued March 9, Plant and his Band of Joy will stage a pre-opening" concert on June 24 at Salle Wilfred-Laurier.
Other newly announced performers include Brad Mehldau, Joshua Redman, jazz-rock outfit Return to Forever IV, Peter Frampton (performing his 1976 album 'Frampton Comes Alive'), Regina Carter, Youssou N'Dour, Portuguese singer Ana Moura and Parisian gypsy swing group Caravan Palace.
The additions complement the previously announced artists, including Krall (who will perform a three-night stand), Angelique Kidjo, Dianne Reeves, Sade with John Legend, Lizz Wright, Shad, Femi Kuti and the Positive Force, Buddy Guy and Bruce Cockburn.
The complete indoor concert lineup will be announced for the festival on April 26, with an additional announcement for the free outdoor program coming in June. Tickets for the festival go on sale Saturday at noon, additional information is available on the festival's website.
The festival's inaugural 1980 lineup featured Chick Corea and the late Ray Charles, and has seen a who's who of jazz perform over the years, such as Miles Davis, Winton Marsalis, Ella Fitzgerald, Tony Bennett, James Brown, and Dizzy Gillespie. More contemporary artists such as Sting, Norah Jones, Stevie Wonder, Bob Dylan and Van Morrison have played the festival in recent years.
