Montreal, Monday, February 21, 2011—Organizers of the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal, presented by TD, are proud to add concerts by Afrobeat king Femi Kuti (with The Positive Force), Franco-Israeli revelation Yael Naim and American saxophonist Dave Liebman to the roster of the Jazz All-Year Round series. Furthermore, add in the name of R&B sensation John Legend, who will open the Sade concert scheduled as part of the 32nd edition of the Festival. Tickets for these new concerts are now on sale.

Femi Kuti & The Positive Force. Opening act: The Power Dam Initiative—April 20, 8 p.m., L'Astral—The incandescent Femi Kuti in L'Astral-bring your sunscreen! As part of his American tour, the son of Afrobeat immortal Fela treats us to the irresistible, indomitable rhythms of his new album, Africa for Africa. And opening the evening, welcome super-festive Montreal DJ collective The Power Dam Initiative.

Yael Naim—May 7, 8 p.m., Métropolis (cabaret format)—A major new discovery in Europe and here at the Festival in 2008, singer, guitarist and pianist Yael Naim-born in Paris but raised near Tel-Aviv-is back with a vengeance with a highly-anticipated new album, She Was a Boy, recorded with her sidekick David Donatien. Her talent, popularity and critical acclaim are, of course, undiminished: witness her nomination as Female Singer of the Year at the Victoires 2011 awards, where she previously won the 2008 award for Album of the Year (World Music Category).

The Dave Liebman Group—May 18, 8 p.m., L'Astral—Considered a true Renaissance Man of contemporary music, Dave Liebman and his group have explored an astonishing range of styles, from bebop to free jazz with stops in Brazilian music (and a side-trip through the Coleman discography on their most recent, live, CD, Ornette Plus). The group has been active for 20 years... and you can hear it in the communal musical complicity and shared intuition implicit in every note played by the Brooklyn-born saxophonist and his compadres, guitarist Victor “Vic" Juris, bassist Tony Marino and drummer Marko Marcinko.

John Legend opens for Sade
June 30, 7:30 p.m., Bell Centre

The announcement of an upcoming Festival concert by English-Nigerian star Sade was already an event in itself; now, add to the allure with an opening set by American music superstar John Legend! The singer, songwriter and pianist is considered to be one of the most powerful and recognizable voices in contemporary R&B; and Legend just further confirmed that by adding three more Grammys to his impressive collection: Best R&B Album, Best R&B Song and Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance. An absolute can't miss concert!

The Festival de Jazz on tour

We remind you that the Festival is going on tour across Quebec for a 2nd year. This time out, excellent guitarist Jordan Officer and charming singer Stacey Kent take on the province: in Montreal on March 11 & 12, 2011, in L'Astral, as well as March 10 in Longueuil, March 13 in Gatineau, March 15 in Brossard, March 17 in SaintHyacinthe, March 18 in Sainte-Thérèse, March 19 in Shawinigan, March 20 in Sherbrooke, March 24 in Valleyfield, March 25 in L'Assomption, March 26 in Beloeil and March 27 in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu.

A non-profit organization, the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal is pursuing its mission of disseminating and developing jazz and its musical cousins for the eleventh year in a row, by reinvesting its surpluses in the presentation of special concerts at its Jazz All-Year Round series. With support from public partners, specifically, the Société de développement des entreprises culturelles (SODEC) and Canadian Heritage, it can thus offer Montrealers and visitors to the city the chance to experience the rhythms of jazz all-year round! The Festival also highlights the support of the Maison du Festival Rio Tinto Alcan, official host of the Jazz All Year Round series, as well as the support of Bell and the Hyatt Regency Montréal, partner and official hotel of the series, respectively.
