Brenda Russell Plays Piano in the Spotlight at Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival

Singer-songwriter, keyboard player Brenda Russell is confirmed to play piano in the spotlight at the Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival 2011 staged at the spacious Greenfield Stadium, just outside Montego Bay.

Russell who indulges the pop, soul, jazz and adult contemporary genre will feature with the Paul Peress Project on a night that includes, 70s R&B group Tavares, Ron Isley, Diana King on the main stage at the Trelawny parish venue.

Apart from composing and recording her own material, Brenda Russell's songwriting and vocal talents are often in demand by many artists who, over the years, have included Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Joni Mitchell, Donna Summer, Sting and Earth Wind & Fire.

She wrote the score of the film written in Jamaica, How Stella Got Her Groove Back and work sessions with the likes of Barbara Streisand, Elton John, Michael Franks and Bette Midler.

The Brooklyn born, Canadian reared Russell, whose voice is featured in a number of movies, comes to the Jamaica north coast with nine album credits, the most recent THIS IS REAL LIFE, released in 2010.

She's best known worldwide for her biggest hit, the three Grammy nominated tune Piano in the Dark and also for So Good So Right and If Only For One Night.

For only for one night, Thursday January 27, Brenda Russell will play her piano and sing at the weeklong Jamaica Jazz & Blues Festival, January 23-29, 2011.
