AustinJazz trumpeter, composer and bandleader Jeff Lofton records his third jazz album during a live show with his new project, The Jeff Lofton Electric Thang, at the Cactus Cafe, 2247 Guadalupe Street, on Tuesday, October 19, 2010. The performance begins at 8:30 p.m., and tickets are $10 at the door. A CD release event date, also at the Cactus Cafe, will be be announced soon.
Lofton launched the new group in January, which he describes as ..." trumpet meets electric guitar in a jazz-funk fusion Miles-ian extravaganzaa collaboration of musicians creating a free-form, funk-fusion ensemble whose purpose is to recreate and expand on the Miles Davis fusion of the 1970s and 1980s." Recent shows include Antone's, Speakeasy, Momo's and the Ghost Room.
The album title, Chasing the Voodoo Down at the Cactus Cafe, ATX," is a reference to the Bitches Brew" song Miles Runs the Voodoo Down." The album will include original material.
The Jeff Lofton Electric Thang live recording will include Darin Lyane on guitar, Tony Bray on sax, Austin Kimble on keys, Chris Jones on bass, and Jason McKenzie on drums.
