Great news about fast-rising trumpeter Jonathan Powell: He and his nu Sangha group, including brother Jeremy Powell on sax, are playing a CD-release show this Friday, late night at the Blue Note in New York.

Jonathan and Jeremy, both gifted, young, eclectically minded jazz musicians, are Tampa friends of mine, and former bandmates, who performed and recorded with my old jam/jazz/experimental group, Ghetto Love Sugar (in addition to their gazillion other projects).

Jonathan has lived in NYC for several years, and has gained attention for his work in Latin jazz, as well as a variety of other jazz-and-beyond projects. Jeremy studied at the New School and returned to Tampa, where he plays in groups including an intimate jazz duo with guitarist LaRue Nickelson and the jazz/jam group Infinite Groove Orchestra.

Ill try to write more about the CD later. Meanwhile, heres the show info, from Jonathan:

This Friday, May 14th, Jonathan Powell & nu Sangha will release their debut CD at the Late Night Groove Series presented by The Blue Note. The groundbreaking new album and band fuses jazz, fusion, rock, metal and electronica into seamless sonic masterpieces. Check it out at iTunes:itunes.apple.com or CDBaby:cdbaby.com. Feel free to stop by, hear the group, purchase the CD and have it autographed by the group.
