GOOD PEOPLE In Times of Evil finds Jonas Hellborg, Shawn Lane, and V. Selvaganesh traversing heretofore uncharted musical landscapes and, in the process, creating one of the more unique and compelling collections of recorded music in recent memory. Those familiar with Hellborg's previous work won't be surprised to hear that the album defies categorization, but even longtime fans will be surprised at the casual grace and unnerving competency with which this trio deftly pickpockets from any number of dissimilar genres, producing a cohesive and utterly convincing whole. From the achingly beautiful opening track, “Aga of the Ladies," to “Bhakti Ras" (recorded live in Bombay with a guest appearance from renowned Indian sarangi player, Ustad Sultan Khan), GOOD PEOPLE In Times of Evil ignores conventions and sets a standard for creative improvised music which will leave others scrambling to catch up for a while to come.

Jonas Hellborg's wide-ranging musical interests and unequaled technical ability have found the bassist/composer playing alongside such disparate artists as John McLaughlin, Billy Cobham, Ginger Baker, Tony Williams, Reebop Kwaku Baah, John Lydon, and Bill Laswell. Hellborg has recorded over 20 albums as a leader and numerous as a sideman. His records have won many awards all over the world and have been used for film, TV, and dance.

Shawn Lane first gained widespread recognition at the age of fourteen as lead guitarist for Black Oak Arkansas. Lane has since performed and recorded with Joe Walsh, Alex Chilton, Sam and Dave, Robert Duval, and the Highwaymen (Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Kris Kristofferson, and Waylon Jennings), among others. Lane's 1991 solo album, Powers of Ten, met with considerable critical acclaim. Lane and Jonas Hellborg have been musical collaborators since the early '90s, recording six albums and touring the U.S., Europe, and Asia.

V. Selvaganesh represents the new breed of percussionist emerging from India: Young, cosmopolitan and adventurous. Among those he has accompanied are Smt M.S. Subbalakshmi, Smt M. Vasanthakumari, and Trichur Sri Ramachandran.. In 1993, Selvaganesh traveled across Europe together with tabla maestros Ustad Zakir Hussain, Ustad Alla Rakha and Sri T.H. Vinayakram. His spirit of adventure has also led to forays into the world of jazz where he has played in the jazz ensemble conducted by Sri Ganesh and Sri Kumeresh. Selvaganesh has perhaps gained most recognition in the west for his work in the group Shakti alongside guitar maestro John McLaughlin, with whom Selvaganesh will be touring in the fall of 2000.
