The Skipp Pearson Jazz Foundation Hosts National Jazz Appreciation Month in South Carolina

Columbia, SC -- The Skipp Pearson Jazz Foundation in keeping with it stated mission is pleased to host Jazz Appreciation Month in South Carolina beginning Thursday, April 1 through Friday, April 30, 2010.

Throughout the entire month activities and special event will be offered devoted to music education, centered on the theme: The Art of Bebop. There is literally something for everyone on the schedule, with the creme de la creme being a live jam session on Sunday, April 25 showcasing an array of master jazz musicians.

Jazz Appreciation Month in South Carolina begins on April 1 with Thursday Nite with Skipp Pearson, featuring the amazing Charlton Singleton, jazz master of the trumpet, and conductor for the Jazz Artists of Charleston Ensemble, Hunter Gatherer, 900 main Street, 9:00 p.m., cover charge $5 per person.

Other highlights include: FREE admission performances of the Foundations original Storytime Jazz Hour for elementary school age children (k5 through 3rd grade) of the crowd pleasing original story: The Little Boy Who Hated Jazz.

This multi-media presentation follows the original character, Bix Sydney Harper, six years old, who comes to understand and appreciate himself and the world around him through the exploration of jazz music.

The aforementioned presentations are sponsored by Rice Music Hall of Columbia, Jyotindra M. Parekh, owner and operator.

On Sunday, April 4, join Skipp Pearson as he hosts the first, of four, Wine Sips and Jazz in the Afternoon presentations designed for jazz music scholars, aficionados and the general public, Liberty Tap Room and Grill, 828 Gervais Street, Columbia, SC, 4:00 pm-6:00 pm.

On Monday, April 5, join Skipp Pearson as he hosts the first, of four, Coffeetime Jazz Lectures and Discussions exploring the topic: The Sounds of Jazz Music in the 21st Century, Starbucks on Gervais, 831 Gervais Street, Columbia, SC, 6 p.m.-7:30 p.m.



The lecture will feature a brief lecture by a guest speaker to lead into a public discussion. This very special Public Program is designed to bring about an intriguing conversation on the evolution of today's jazz, a focal point for the Skipp Pearson Jazz Foundation and the music community at-large.



The Skipp Pearson Jazz Foundation is a non-profit 501 (c) music education and preservation organization that has the primary mission to foster a greater appreciation of and promote the continued development of live jazz music performances. Through a myriad of public programs centered on music education and the Foundation seeks to enrich the lives of all persons in communities throughout the globe.
