Daniel Volovets
Silhouette (2009) is the result of a year of composing and arranging. Original compositions, ranging from “noir jazz" to flamenco, comprise almost half the album, while the other half features tunes not usually performed on the guitar, with two highlights being Waltz for Debby (a piano piece arranged for guitar from the original recording by the Bill Evans Trio) and Delicado (a popular choro band piece, imbued in this guitar arrangement with a decidedly Spanish flavor). Though the theme is darker than on the last album, “Watercolors of the World", “Silhouette" ends on an optimistic note; the somber rondea segues into an up-tempo bulerias, echoing the first tune.
