Live and in Color: Industrial Jazz Group at the Space

SOURCE: Published: 2009-10-20
Andrew Durkin is in the midst of marauding up and down the East Coast with 16 of his closest friends.

Pianist /composer Durkin leads the Industrial Jazz Group, an ensemble he created nearly a decade ago to perform his compositions, an unruly (at times) blend of mainstream jazz with Frank Zappa-esque (?) flourishes, comedic splashes, fiery solos, and “swinging" beats.  It's wise-cracking but not snooty music that raises a smile while it entertains, makes your feet tap as the energetic soloists fly over the rock-solid rhythm section.

Sorry for the late notice - IJG comes to Connecticut on Tuesday October 20 to perform a 9 p.m. show at The Space, 295 Treadwell Street in Hamden. Not necessarily the place one might expect to hear creative jazz but why not?  Durkin doesn't aim his music at any particular audience, just people with open minds and big ears (not speaking physically here.)

Check out the trailer for the tour and then log on to www.industrialjazzgroup.com to find out more.  Once you've been seduced, go to www.thespace.tk where you can get directions and see who else is on the bill.
