Drummer/Composer Mauricio Zottarelli is performing live with his quintet in NYC, celebrating the release of his new CD “7 Lives".

Mauricio Zottarelli has been actively performing and contributing with some of the most preeminent artists in the Jazz, Latin/Brazilian and Fusion circles. Aside from his recent collaborations with pianist Hiromi's group SonicBloom and jazz/brazilian pianist Eliane Elias, he is also working on getting his own music heard. His new release, the CD entitled “7 Lives”, has been receiving great praise from the press and the jazz community both in the USA and abroad.

“Zottarelli, who wrote seven out of the eleven songs is not only a gifted composer but also a great producer. A drummer whose playing is incredibly musical and at the same time propulsive.(...) 7 Lives is a hit", says S.Gerosa, from Jazz'n'More Magazine - Switzerland

“(…) Featuring Zottarelli’s many different rhythmic and compositional skills, this album is high-quality Brazilian jazz”, from H.Sugita - Swing Journal – JAPAN.

On Thursday, October 8th, 2009, Mauricio's quintet will perform live the music from “7 lives" for the first time. The show will take place at Zinc Bar - NYC, starting at 9:30pm.

The music on “7 Lives"
This project explores even more Mauricio’s versatility and musicality, and also showcases him from a different perspective: as a composer and bandleader.
“I always wanted to have my own group, and to write my own songs”, says Mauricio. “In one way or another this has been in the works since I started to get serious about music. It has been an amazing experience to be able to create this music and to have these fantastic musicians perform it. I couldn’t be happier with the results.”

The goal of the project is to blend Brazilian-jazz, fusion, and Jazz into one unique sound. On his original compositions, Mauricio works on combining different harmonic ideas, polyrhythmic patterns and grooves, and interesting melodies into something original and modern.

The CD features many admired and respected names in the Jazz and Latin/Brazilian music scenes:

Gustavo Assis Brasil (guitar)
Itaiguara Brandão (eletric bass)
Milene Corso (vocals)
Brandi Disterheft (acoustic bass)
Dom Salvador (piano)
