SF's Pyramind School Presents: Skerik Master Class
Some of Skerik's uncommon music practices have been called acoutronica," reflecting his unique style of blending electronic and acoustic instruments. The workshop will include various discussions based on 25 years of recording and playing experience by Skerik. The day will begin with an overview of acoustic recording techniques emanating from the saxophone, including stolen information from the likes of cohorts Matt Chamberlain, Mell Dettmer, Randall Dunn and S. Husky Hoskulds. Skerik will then outline some of the applications he's used to create the distinctive sounds found on his many group recordings. Electronic DI, isolated amp, and modern re-amping techniques will then be performed live by the Skerik through his perplexing effects and electronics setup, and with the assistance of one of Pyramind's top engineers, combined in multi-track recordings and mixed in different formats, including stereo, and 2-channel stereo manipulations. Although the techniques described in this session can be used for any musical situation, it is hoped that these methods will inspire more sinister and creative endeavors in the future.
Pyramind's exclusive full-day workshops are intended to provide advanced-level training in an intensive small-class setting, allowing producers and performers reaching for the next level to learn directly from the masters defining their respective fields.
