PAUL McCANDLESS & ART LANDE TO PRESENT NYC PREMIER OF MUSIC ON NEW SYNERGY MUSIC CD SHAPESHIFTER AT MAKOR SEPTEMBER 14th

Reed-virtuoso and Oregon co-founder Paul McCandless and pianist Art Lande, with whom he has closely collaborated for 30 years, will present the New York premier of music from their new Synergy Music release Shapeshifter during a trio concert with bassist Bruce Williamson at 9 pm Tuesday, September 14th at Makor. Tickets at $15 are available at the Makor Box Office, 35 West 67th Street in Manhattan, by calling 212.601.1000 or online at www.makor.org.

Shapeshifter (SMCD80022), McCandlesss Synergy Music debut, was released on September 7th and is the first recording on which he is featured playing his first instrument, the tenor saxophone. The multi-faceted quartet session with Lande, bassist Peter Barshay and drummer Alan Hall features instrumentals with a range of morphing melodic, rhythmic and harmonic moods that recall the ancient shapeshifter myth.

McCandless, Lande and Williamson are master musicians equally comfortable in the jazz and classical worlds. The trios compositions and spontaneous improvisations draw upon a vast palette of instrumental timbres -- including oboe, clarinets, flutes, saxophones, piano and percussion -- trio to create a unique and inspiring sound that seamlessly blends elements of jazz, classical and world music.
