New York, NY: New York based pianist Tim Lyddon and his trio featuring bassist Tom Hubbard and drummer Steve Johns will perform a jazz concert at the Priory on Sunday, August 1st, 2004, 11am to 3pm to support Mr. Lyddon's latest release on his EssenceJazz label, Shades Of People.

His compelling and distinctive style engages a sensibility of enormous breadth, encompassing the classic American song form, and the harmonic innovations of the post-bop era, offering “..a light touch that allows for a certain resonance, meaning that his lines - often little snippets of pure melody - are flecked with intrigue." (Macnie) Village Voice. Mr. Lyddon has performed and toured with jazz artists such as flutist Sam Most, the Dick Berk Quartet, Chuck Flores Quintet, bassist Jeff Berlin, vocalist Herb Jeffries and drummers Eliot Zigmund and Bill Goodwin.

Bassist Tom Hubbard has performed with Kenny Barron, Charlie Rouse and Dewey Redmond. He has performed and written arrangements for seven of Freddy Coles' CDs.

Drummer Steve Johns has worked and toured with many top flight artists such as: Benny Carter, Stanley Turrentine, The Billy Taylor Trio, The Count Basie Orchestra, Diane Schuur, Jimmy Owens, Jon Faddis, John Hicks, The Gil Evans Orchestra, and The Thomas Chapin Trio.

“...the trio has come together as one entity which reveals how dynamic an entity can be." Dan Karcher, WBGO-FM (Jazz 88)

“With an engaging light as a feather, block-chord touch, pianist Tim Lyddon spins out original and standard compositions in the piano trio format. Even in a congested market, Lyddon makes a strong case for his rendering of the piano trio." - Michael Bailey (All About Jazz).

“He's armed with a slightly irreverent sense of humor that is sprinkled throughout Shades of People. It's safe to say Lyddon never met a motif he couldn't weave into the fabric of an intro. He does it on all six standards and each is a delight." --JAZZ TIMES May 2004

The concert performance will feature selections from both of his CDs which contain original compositions and arrangements of several jazz standards. There is $15 cover charge and a $10 minimum.

The Jazz Priory is located at 233 Market Avenue in Newark NJ. Contact the club at 973-623-2800 for directions and information.
