Somerset, New Jersey - Jazz vocalist and songwriter PJ Parker has been awarded an Honorable Mention in the 12th Annual Unisong International Songwriting Contest for her composition, “Not Beneath the Tree.”

The song was one of 11 in the “seasonal” category so honored among submissions from songwriters from around the world. Songs in the competition are judged on originality, melody, composition, and lyrics.

Previous Unisong judges and friends include: Lamont Dozier, Diane Warren, Bonnie Greenberg, K.C. Porter, Dave Koz, Peter Frampton, Fee Waybill, Allan Rich, Randy Bachman, Lester Sill, Don Grierson, Andrew Gold, Barry Mann, Randy Sharp, Harriet Schock, Mike Stoller, John Braheny, Michael Jay, Jorge Corrante, Don Was, John Kalodner, Bruce Lundvall and Desmond Child, Pat and Pete Luboff, and Dan Kimpel among many, according to the contest’s Web site (www.unisong.com).

“Not Beneath the Tree” is included in Parker’s second CD, “It’s Christmas.” In addition to PJ’s original composition, the CD contains 11 classic and contemporary Christmas songs.

Jazz fans from around the world continue to embrace Parker: Her artist profile page at www.AllAboutJazz.com - the most popular jazz Web site in the world - is now the 6th most popular among living jazz artists, and 14th among all jazz artists profiled on the site. For an independent artist, this is uncommon territory; rarely are jazz artists raised to such heights without major-label support. Parker's gradually increasing fanbase should garner the interest of large-market jazz radio programmers nationwide, many of whom are still unfamiliar with her.

“Not Beneath the Tree” and “It’s Christmas,” as well as Parker’s CD releases, “Intimate” and her newest, “Dreams Are Meant For Two,” are available at Amazon.com, CDBaby.com and PJ’s Web site.
