Howard University Presents Jazz Showcase at Twins Jazz Club

Washington, DC - Howard University's premier vocal jazz ensemble, Afro Blue and The Howard University Jazztet will be featured at a concert to be presented at Twins Jazz Club on Tuesday, April 20, 2004.

Also to be featured at the showcase will be Howard University's other two jazz vocal ensembles, Sassy and A Whole Lotta Jazz Singers, as well as selected solo jazz vocalists. The concert will be held at

The time of the performance will be from 7:30 PM - 10:30 PM. The event is a fundraiser, which will benefit the Howard University student chapter of the International Association of Jazz Education (IAJE). Admission into the event will be a $5.00 cover charge at the door and a $5.00 drink minimum.

Newly formed in spring of 2002, Afro Blue, Howard University's premier vocal jazz ensemble has quickly gained national attention. In June 2003, Afro Blue was named 'Best College Jazz Group' by Downbeat Magazine. Following that honor, the group was selected to participate at the International Association of Jazz Educators Annual Conference held in New York City in January 2004. Most recently, Afro Blue has been invited to perform at The Clef Club of Jazz and Performing Arts in Philadelphia and the National Museum of American History, as part of the Smithsonian jazz appreciation month concerts.
