Johnny Frigo and Oscar Brown, Jr. Days in Chicago

SOURCE: Published: 2004-04-14

Chicago jazz vocalist Spider Saloff convinced Mayor Richard M. Daley and the City of Chicago to honor two of the windy citys living music legends during her upcoming April series featuring the works of Chicagos Great Songwriters - and the city complied! Thursday, April 29th will be “Johnny Frigo Day" while Friday, April 30th will be “Oscar Brown, Jr. Day".

The two internationally hailed jazz greats responded with memorable comments when Ms. Saloff called last week to inform them. After a long hearty laugh, Oscar Brown Jr., the 78 year-old High Priest of Hip, said “Thats wonderful! And so soon!" while legendary jazz violinist Johnny Frigo (aged 88) opined “Well wont that be something! Thats what - a Thursday?? Oh I have a gig that night...I guess I better sub out."
