Peekskill, NY: “Raising The Bar” Jazz Series presented by Earl John Powell, son of the amazing Bud Powell will feature a live jazz performance by The Legacy Trio featuring Jazz greats Curtis Lundy-bass, Rodney Kendrick -piano and Craig Haynes-drums performing the music of Thelonious Monk, Bud Powell, Roy Haynes & Abbey Lincoln at the BeanRunner Cafe, on Saturday May 23rd at 7:00pm, Admission $10. Seating is limited reservations are highly recommended. The 1st set will begin at 7:30 and the 2nd set at 9:30. Curtis Lundy, an accomplished bassist, composer, producer, choir director, and arranger and is best-known for his work as part of jazz vocalist Betty Carter's band. He has played with renowned musicians including Jack DeJohnette, Dave Holland, and Don Braden, and has also played on other jazz artists' recordings (including select albums by John Hicks, Bobby Watson, Steve Nelson Quintet, Johnny Griffin, etc.). Stepping out of the background, Curtis produced his album Just Be Yourself (1988), Against All Odds (1999) and Purpose (2002). His sister is the noted singer Carmen Lundy.



Rodney Kendrick has toured with Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes, James Brown and George Clinton and has played with Freddie Hubbard, Terence Blanchard, Stanley Turrentine, Clark Terry, J. J. Johnson, and others. Kendrick cites Randy Weston and Sun Ra as influences. He has produced several albums, including a solo piece titled Thank You (2002), a duo-piano piece with his mentor Randy Weston, an album with his wife titled Rhonda Ross Live: Featuring Rodney Kendrick (2002), as well as a project with his father, Jimmy Kay, entitled Black is Back (2006). According to the New York Times: “A product of a great trio of percussive pianists: Duke Ellington, Thelonius Monk, and Randy Weston - Rodney Kendrick is an exceptional pianist" Rodney cites Bud Powell as being the gateway for modern jazz pianists.



Craig Holiday Haynes (named after Billie Holiday), son of the great Roy Haynes, also has a brother, Graham Haynes who plays trumpet and a nephew, Marcus Gilmore who plays drums, started his professional career at 15, playing R&B, tenor saxophone all around NYC, backing up recording stars such as Brook Benton, The Toys, and others. At 20, he turned to the drums and has played with jazz greats such as Sun Ra, Johnny Copeland, Barry Harris, Gloria Lynne, George Benson, Jimmy Heath, Donald Byrd, Tony Bennett, Lionel Hampton, Geri Allen, Clark Terry, Stanley Jordan, Onaje Allen Gumbs, Tony O (of the Legendary Blues Band), Marcus Miller, John Hicks, Lalah Hathaway, Gladys Knight and he has also played with the Harlem Boys Choir.
