Phil Kellys 'Convergence Zone' CD release concerts, 2/15 and 2/16

Phil Kelly and the Northwest Prevailing Winds held a pair of CD release concerts this past weekend at Tula's in Seattle WA on Sunday 2/15 ( which was packed to the roof ) and again the next night at JazzBones in Tacoma WA.

Almost the entire recording group was present (including our “LA contingent" Pete Christlieb and Andy Martin) and the band sounded absolutely great both nights, especially considering the fact they were basically “resightreading" the book, since it had been 10 months since they recorded the CD. There were great solos all around from both Pete and Andy and our NW A team cadre: Jay Thomas and Vern Seilert on trumpet, Dan Marcus on Trombone, Bill Ramsay, Travis Ranney, Jim Coile and Matso Limtiaco on bari as well as the crack rhythm section of John Hansen (piano), Chuck Dearddorf (bass) and the premier big bad drummer on the left coast, Gary Hobbs.

The crowd was quite entusiastic both nights. Jazz Critic Harvey Siders ( a Puget Sound resident ) remarked: “when I lived in LA, I could go out almost any night of the week and hear a band like this, but this is the first time I've been able to do it here in the northwest."

Also, the Convergence Zone CD is still hovering at #50 on the JazzWeek airplay charts.

Phil is actively seeking some festival bookings for the band this coming summer, so maybe it will appear live again soon.
