December 6--Acclaimed gospel/soul singer Fontella Bass and her Voices of St. Louis group will release their debut album on Justin Time Records on March 27, 2001.

Travelin', a dynamic collection of 10 original tunes ranging from gospel to soul to jazz and blues, was recorded at the Four Seasons Media recording studio in her native St. Louis last September. The set was produced by Bass and Voices of St. Louis member Bahnamous Bowie.

Bass is the daughter of the great vocalist Martha Bass, sister of David Peaston, and ex-wife of Art Ensemble of Chicago trumpeter, the late Lester Bowie. “Rescue Me", Bass' 1965 debut solo single, topped the R&B charts for a month, peaked at number four on the pop charts, and was among the era's finest soul singles.

The Voices of St. Louis feature Bass and her brother David Peaston on lead vocals, Tracey Mitchell on electric & acoustic guitars, Ptah Williams on piano, Bahnamous Bowie on keyboards, Jimmy Hinds on electric bass guitar, Curtis Fondren on drums, Dwayne Bosman on saxophone and Dwight Bosman on flute, woodwinds.
