About Sir Roland Hanna
Sir Roland Hanna ranks among the major artists in jazz today, and is viewed as one of the most versatile pianists of any generation. Born in Detroit, Michigan, Sir Hanna began his piano studies at an early age. After graduating from Cass Technical High School and a two-year stint with the U.S. Army Band, he continued his musical studies at the Eastman School of Music and The Julliard School. In addition to being a successful solo pianist, Sir Hanna has provided sensitive accompaniment to such artists as Sarah Vaughan, Carmen McRae, Al Hibbler, Charles Mingus, the Thad Jones-Mel Lewis Orchestra, The Benny Goodman Big Band, the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, and many others. As a soloist, his impeccable sense of time and solid left hand enable him to create, without assistance, performances of melodic, harmonic and rhythmic excitement. As an ensemble player, his individuality reveals musical talent that has been honed with years of experience. A prolific writer, Sir Hanna's catalog of over 400 compositions includes works not only for standard jazz ensembles, but also trios for cello, flute, and French horn, as well as larger works for piano and orchestra. He was knighted by President William V.S. Tubman of Liberia for humanitarian services to that country. With over 50 albums to his name, his most recent releases include Sir Roland Hanna: Duke Ellington Piano Solos (1991), Roland Hanna Plays Gershwin (1993), and Sir Roland Hanna, Maybeck Recital Hall Series Vol. 32 (1994). He is a professor at the Aaron Copland School of Music, Queens College, The City University of New York. Sir Roland Hanna passed away at the age of 70 on November 13, 2002 after suffering a heart attack.

There is a $10 food/drink minimum per person at the tables. At the bar, the music charge includes one drink.
