Maine Jazz Guitarist Mark Kleinhaut Teams up with International Jazz Star to Release New CD.

One of Maine's most accomplished and exciting jazz musicians, Mark Kleinhaut, has just released a new CD of original music in which his trio teams up with world-renowned saxophonist Bobby Watson, an alumnus of Art Blakey's band the legendary Jazz Messengers, a five-time winner of DownBeat Magazine's Critics Polls for best alto sax player, as well as Jazz Musician of the Year in 1992. Kleinhaut's new CD A Balance of Light is receiving national critical acclaim, a recent review of A Balance of Light, on ejazznews.com says, “...you find yourself using words like 'perfect' and 'sublime' because that's what you're hearing." Music from the CD has been played on National Public Radio, and the CD is being played on jazz stations throughout the country.

Kleinhaut is celebrating the release of his CD with a series of concerts in Maine, from November 7 through Nov. 10. Including a concert on November 8 to raise money for a program called Jazz Goes to School. Jazz Goes to School brings jazz musicians and kids together for a day of music and jazz education. Local jazz enthusiasts may remember Bobby's Watson's amazing performance with the Mark Kleinhaut Trio at the 2002 Key Maine Jazz Festival (Watson's first performance in Maine). It was this appearance that led to the creation of this CD, A Balance of Light. Kleinhaut often reflects on what a wealth of talent there is in Maine, “not only are great musicians like Jim Lyden and Les Harris here, but I was able to have the project recorded and replicated in Maine, the striking cover art is the work of Yarmouth artist Jan ter Weele -- and it was the lobster that got Bobby to come to Maine!"

This is truly a fascinating story of a Maine musician reaching out to one of jazz's most highly regarded artists, developing a relationship and then collaborating to produce an album that some critics are already calling one of the best jazz releases of the year.
