“He writes beautiful compositions. Mordy is committed to the highest level of quality and creativity. He is not afraid to take risks," says Jack DeJohnette.

Born in 1958 in a small town in northern Israel, Ferber began his musical journey as a singer at the age of 10. He formed a trio and performed at school events and small concerts in his hometown. At the age of 12, after picking up a guitar at the home of a family friend, he decided to take some formal guitar lessons. At that time he was heavily into rock and pop music until he heard the great gypsy jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt on the radio. This had a tremendous influence on him and prompted him to get more serious about jazz guitar and technique.

At 18 he joined the army - which is a three-year obligation in Israel - and toured with the army band entertaining soldiers in Israel and abroad. After his army experience, Forber became one of Israel's top musicians and, at 23, he received a full scholarship to the Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he moved soon after. He graduated in 1987 with full honors and decided to stay in the U.S. as “the best jazz musicians in the world live here and I wanted to be near them."

He was an active member of Boston's vibrant jazz scene of the 1980's before he moved to New York City in 1990. Here he released his debut recording as a solo artist, “All the Way to Sendai," and began playing and recording with artists such as Michael Brecker, Jack DeJohnette, Eddie Gomez, Peter Erskine, Bob Mintzer, Dave Liebman, Miroslav Vitous, Nana Vasconcelos, Bob Moses, Richard Bona, Joe Beck, and Billy Hart to name a few. New York is now where Ferber makes his home while touring the world. A few of his favorite places to go back to year after year are the Du Maurier Jazz Festival in Toronto and the Blue Note in New York.
