The 2008 Trenton Jazz Festival will once again serenade audiences across Trenton this fall, scheduled for Sept. 20.
The program will begin at 2 p.m. and unofficially bids farewell to the summertime with a combination of music, jazz festival food, and more.
Teena Marie, Euge Groove, S.O.S. Band and Gordon Chambers will be featured artists.
Four-time Grammy nominee Marie is a force in contemporary pop and R&B music. The singer, songwriter, producer and arranger has captured the hearts and spirits of fans around the world. Marie, a native of Santa Monica, California, grew up with a strong African-American influence from her godmother and was raised on a pure diet of Motown. Her album “Sapphire" features guest appearances by Smokey Robinson, Kurupt, and Gerald Albright, as well as her 14-year-old daughter, Alia Rose.
Groove, a pseudonym for contemporary jazz saxophonist Steve Grove, has worked with Joe Cocker, the Eurythmics, The Gap Band, Aaron Neville, Jeffrey Osborne, Tina Turner, and many more. As a saxophonist, composer, and arranger, he has a reputation for versatility, having produced distinctive jazz, gospel and R&B hits.
S.O.S. Band, formed in Atlanta in 1977, with the S.O.S. standing for “Sounds of Success," is well known for appearances on Sinbad's HBO concert specials and for its three R&B gold albums, “S.O.S.", “On the Rise," and “Sands of Time."
Chambers, who has catalogued hits with Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, Anita Baker, Yolanda Adams, Patti Labelle, and the Isley Brothers, is a well known lyricist and R&B vocalist. He was nominated for a Grammy in 2006 for the song “Family Reunion" featuring Yolanda Adams, Chaka Khan, Carl Thomas, and Gerald Levert.
