Antoinette Montague Antoinette Montague will perform at The Many Colors of a W*O*M*A*N XXIV Free Jazz Festival (Aetna Theater at the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art. Hartford, CT on Saturday Sept. 6 and at The September Concert: The Heart of Jazz in New York on Thursday, September 11.

Born and raised in Newark, Antoinette Montague recently released her first CD, Pretty Blues but she has had many invaluable musical experiences. She worked in gospel and R&B ensembles after college, serves as the vice president of the International Women in Jazz, and considers Carrie Smith, Etta Jones, Della Griffin and Myrna Lake to be her mentors.

Antoinette has worked extensively in the New York area during the past decade with such musicians as Bill Easley, Norman Simmons, Winard Harper, Wycliffe Gordon, Frank Wess, the Duke Ellington Orchestra and Mike Longo's New York State of the Arts Orchestra and Lou Donaldson has introduced her to many of his audiences.

She has appeared on the cover of Jazz Improv's Jazz Guide, and has performed at Jazz at Lincoln Center's Dizzy's Club Coca Cola, the Zebra Room in Harlem's famous Lenox Lounge, the legendary Blue Note, the Blue Smoke::Jazz Standard with The Winard Harper Sextet and Dr. Billy Taylor, the Jazzmobile Summer Breeze Concert Series with Huston Person for a tribute to Junior Mance with Winard Harper, Tommy James and Bill Moring among other recent gigs.

In addition, Antoinette frequently appears at many Jazz Societies and Festivals. Antoinette is on the Board of the Boys and Girls Club of America, Better Business Bureau, The Jazz Committee of St Peters Church, International Women in Jazz, and the Women In Jazz Festival.

Recording and releasing Pretty Blues on the Consolidated Artists label raised her profile and has given her fame beyond the East Coast. On this highly enjoyable CD, Antoinette Montague is featured belting out blues, interpreting sensitive ballads, combining passion and sophistication, and making every song sound fresh, infectious and topical.

The September Concert was born in 2002 on the first anniversary of 9/11. Since then, on each anniversary our message of peace through music has spread further and further. In 2007 we organized over 200 concerts with more than 3, 000 performers. In addition to 119 concerts in New York, 42 US cities hosted concerts as well as 39 international cities, such as Rome, Paris, Beijing, Tokyo, Johannesburg and Casablanca.

The September Concert is a series of free concerts, organized by individuals, schools, businesses, and associations

  • to reaffirm our hope for peace
  • to celebrate life and our universal humanity


Concerts are held in all areas of our city, our nation, our world. A global day of music for peace, every September 11th. Anyone can participate!
