David Haney Presents a Two Week Workshop in Improvisation for Orphaned Boys Ages 14-18 in la Paz, Bolivia
THE PROGRAM In conjunction with Creative Corners of London, England, David Haney, a Seattle based pianist, improviser, and composer will teach a two week residency at the State Orphanage in La Paz, Bolivia. During the two week period, boys ranging in ages from 14 to 18 will learn the basics of improvisation and musical dialogue. Using specific rhythms from around the world and improvisation techniques, the students learns ways of using music to enhance their lives. A performance festival of will be presented as the culmination of the residency. The festival will be open to other members of the Bolivian and South American music scene. The boys in the program will work in concert as a separate group and in combination with other great improvisers attending the festival. The festival will be held at a site such as the Municipal Theatre. There will be DVD and mp3 downloads available of the event at a davidhaney.org

THE RESIDENCY/FESTIVAL DE IMPROVISATION
The music residency is for a large state home for orphaned or abandoned boys ages 14-18 and is situated in the heart of La Paz, Bolivia. The boys attend school and the home also provides technical training in Electricity, Auto Mechanics, Industrial Mechanics, Electronics, and Carpentry. From 2.30 each afternoon the boys are free to take part in volunteer activities. The two week afternoon music program is designed and presented by David Haney and coordinated under the direction of Creative Corners. At the end of the residency the boys will work with other musicians in a festival of improvised music. This will help the boys to apply skills and learn new networking skills.
ABOUT DAVID HANEY
David Haney is a musician and composer who specializes in the art of improvisation. He has taught music improvisation at the University of Gent, Belgium; Portland State University, Western Washington State University, EMU in La Plata, Argentina, and at Hot Club Rosario, Rosario, Argentina. In 2002, David received touring grants from the U.S. embassies in Argentina and Chile to present the music of Herbie Nichols to various locations in South America. He tours regularly in New York and Europe with some of the world's greatest improvisers such as Andrew Cyrille, Han Bennink, Julian Priester, and others. He has recorded nine CDs for the C.I.M.P and Cadence Jazz Records labels in New York. David has raised four children, and currently lives in Seattle.

A not for profit volunteer organization that specializes in creative projects to disadvantaged children. 100 % of the profits are reinvested back to the projects for disadvantaged, abused and abandoned children in the areas in which we send volunteers to supply arts education materials.
