Art Auction, Jazz Poetry, Benefit Jazz Concert
for ZoŽ Anglesey
at The Bowery Poetry Club
On Sunday, October 6th, 2002 from 7-11pm, The Bowery Poetry Club will host an art auction, jazz poetry and benefit concert for author, poet and jazz writer Zoe Anglesey featuring a long list of major jazz musicians and poets (see below). In addition to honoring her contributions to the worlds of jazz and poetry, all proceeds from the concert will be donated directly to Ms. Anglesey, to help in deferring the cost of treatment in her battle against lung cancer. Admission is $20.
Anglesey has written jazz reviews, features and interviews for Down Beat, Jazziz, The Village Voice, BOMB, The MultiCultural Review, New York Latino, First of the Month, CitySearch NY, the San Francisco Examiner, and NPR Jazz. Anglesey's poems are widely published as are those with jazz references which have appeared in national literary journals such as Brilliant Corners, Tin House and The North American Review. Additionally, she is the editor of Listen Up! Spoken Word Poetry (One World/Ballantine) and four additional poetry anthologies, including Word Up!: Hope for Youth Poetry from El Centro De LA Raza, and Stone on Stone/Piedra sobre piedra: Poetry by Women of Diverse Cultures.
In addition to the participants identified below, Anglesey herself will read poems accompanied by bassist Dwayne Burno. The event will be M.C.'d by proprietor of the Bowery Poetry Club and poet Bob Holman as well as WBGO broadcaster Monifa Carson-Brown. The full schedule of participants include as follows:

Jackson - piano., Bern Nix, - acoustic guitar, Justin Robinson - alto saxophone, Brian Smith - bass, Elise Wood - flute, Yoron Israel - drums, Butch Morris - trumpet, Vincent Herring - saxophone, and Archie Shepp - saxophone.
Poets include: Yuko Otomo, Steve Dalachinsky, Karen Bennett, David Henderson, Willie Perdomo, Suheir Hammad and Barry Wallenstein accompanied by John Hicks.
Painters have donated their works to be auctioned between sets. Low minimum bids will create bargains from such internationally acclaimed painters as
Al Loving, Danny Simmons, Adger Cowans, and others.
