Brooklyn, New York, March 12, 2008 - The Central Brooklyn Jazz Consortium/CBJC presents its 9th Annual Jazz! The Women's Viewpoint in partnership with Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation on Saturday, April 5th from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at 1368 Fulton Street in Restoration's Community Room. This concert/symposium is part of the 9th Annual Central Brooklyn Jazz Festival. Suggested donation is $10. For information call 718.569.1896.

Jazz! The Women's Viewpoint will pay tribute to key figures of a vibrant, prolific jazz culture nurtured in Central Brooklyn. Alma Carroll (bebop vocalist Joe Carroll), Emme Kemp (vocalist), Sarah MacLawler(R&B vocalist), and Rahkiah Abdurahman (saxophonist Bilal Abdurahman) tell the stories of a time when “swing was king" and bebop reigned supreme. The clubs, lounges, dancers, “seat-warmers", promoters, musicians and proprietors; Brooklyn has its own tradition when it comes to Jazz and the culture that surrounded it. Come and enjoy an afternoon of memories, memorabilia and magic. The program will be moderated by vocalist Antoinette Montague.

Rosalind Blair, CBJC cofounder, created Jazz! The Women's Viewpoint a core program of the Central Brooklyn Jazz Consortium. One of the primary goals of this event is to give women an opportunity to participate in the discourse of the music industry's dynamics. Another aim is to give females an opportunity to share experiences. The panel is open to female: musicians, educators, industry executives, media personnel, and wives of jazz artists. Past participates in Jazz! The Women's Viewpoint have included Judy Bady, Lil Phillips, Tia Fuller, Kim Clarke, and Bertha Hope just to name some.

Central Brooklyn Jazz Consortium, founded in 1999, is an amalgam of jazz musicians, entertainment venues, patrons of the music, community and faith based organizations. Over the past eight (8) years, they have presented an annual spring festival, established a Brooklyn Jazz Hall of Fame, and produced yearly programs of events and activities that feature local jazz musical talents. CBJC is a nonprofit organization committed to preserving, promoting and supporting jazz music, musicians and programs.
