The Artists

Glamorous jazz ingnue Sophie Milman, at just 24 years of age, has established herself as one of the genre's most exciting performers. Since her self-titled debut was released in 2004, it has sold almost 100,000 copies worldwide, hit the Billboard Top 5 in Canada and the Top 15 in the United States, and topped the iTunes jazz charts. Now the Russian-born international jazz sensation returns with her sophomore release “Make Someone Happy" melding tales of her past, her present, with a look toward the future.

Milman's inspiring story begins with her family's emigrating from Russia to Israel at the tender age of 7, then moving again at 16 to seek a new life in Canada. In 2006, she earned a Juno Award nomination for Best Jazz Vocal Album and was appearing on stage with international superstars including Aaron Neville and the Neville Brothers, Chick Corea, and Jesse Cook. A triumphant return home to Toronto in October 2006 yielded an acclaimed iTunes EP, Live at the Winter Garden Theatre, which debuted at #1 upon its release in Canada and dominated the jazz charts. Milman makes her debut at Longwood Gardens on January 31 at 8 pm.

Since its inception in 1985, the Turtle Island Quartet has been a singular force in the creation of bold, new trends in chamber music for strings. Winner of the 2006 Grammy Award for Best Classical Crossover Recording of the Year, Turtle Island fuses the classical quartet esthetic with contemporary American musical styles. Proclaimed by world-renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma as “a unified voice that truly breaks new ground - authentic and passionate - a reflection of some of the most creative music-making today," the Turtle Island Quartet never disappoints. At Longwood on February 21, they will present Love Supreme - Turtle Island Plays The Music Of John Coltrane.

Kenny Garrett is one of today's most scintillating and inspiring alto/soprano saxophonist. The multi-Grammy nominee has been called, “One of the finest jazz saxophonists around" by the LA Times, and consistently wows audiences with his dynamic style. Throughout his career, Garrett has explored a vast spectrum of music and can be heard on recordings by artists as definitive and diverse as jazz legends Art Blakey, Dizzy Gillespie and Miles Davis, and rock musicians Sting, Peter Gabriel and Bruce Springsteen. His quartet joins him in a performance at Longwood on March 13.

Tickets prices are $55 ($50 for Garden Passholders). Purchase tickets to all three concerts and save! In addition to the concert, your ticket includes an exclusive peek at Longwood's Orchid Extravaganza display and extravagant Conservatory, a dessert reception with the artists and convenient parking.
